LG Releases HDTVs with Netflix Support
Posted by admin in HDTV on 06 17th, 2009| icon3No Comments »

Streaming media is going to be the future for televisions. LG, one of the leading manufacturers of high-definition television is able to recognize this vision. That is why they designed sets which baked media streaming features directly straight into their TV. This is very promising for LG especially when other TV manufacturers are pretty slow in integrating online services with their sets.

Obviously, its not that tough to add an Ethernet port to televisions – LG has proven this. But aside from this, the manufacturer must provide a service that would compel consumers to connect those TVs to their home networks. This is where Netflix come in. LG is the first company to ship sets with support for Netflix

LG announced four 1080p models that uses its NetCast suite of interactive services. Two are already in the market – the 47-inch 47LH50 LCD and the 50-inch 50PS60 plasma. LG will further release two more sets, the 42-inch 42LH50 LCD TV and the 60-inch 60PS80 plasma. The plasma are also notable for their THX Display Certification, a technology that optimizes picture settings regardless of the content. In order to make use of Netflix’s on-demand titles, you’ll need to be a subscriber to the $8.99 monthly plan or higher. The NetCast sets will also be able to run Yahoo’s new TV widgets, which will start popping up on other manufacturers’ displays in the coming months.

Of course, these sets come with a price. As for its performance, that is still to be seen. We will probably do a review for them here. Still, its nice to know that a company such as LG is slowly focusing their efforts on combining television with online media.
